Caya Diaphragm Gel
Contraceptive gel for use with natural latex rubber or silicone diaphragms and cervical caps.

Caya®Gel is a contraceptive gel for use with the diaphragm and cervical cap contraceptive methods. Caya®Gel increases the safety of these contraceptive methods. Their use without a contraceptive gel has been proved to be less safe.

Caya® Gel is identical to the Contracep® green manufactured from 1972 to 2002 and ContraGel® green available in europe since 2005. This lactic acid based compostion was shown to be as safe as nonoxynol-9 containing products as long ago as 1989 (Dittrich 1989) in a comparative stdy of different diaphragm gels and creams, but was found to have a much lower potential to cause side effects.

Mode of action

Caya®Gel forms, by means of the cellulose (gel-forming agent), an additional physical barrier in front of the cervix and lowers the pH of the vaginal fluid. The increased acidity and the viscosity of the gel have a motility inhibiting effect on the spermatozoa.

Before inserting into the vagina, place about one teaspoon (about 4 ml) of Caya® Gel into the cervical cup and onto the external rim of the Caya® diaphragm. Then follow the instructions for inseting the diaphragm or cervical cap. The vaginal applicator is used optionally if additional gel is to be introduced in front of the already inserted diaphragm (e.g. the new Caya®contoured diaphragm, EAN 4013273001243) if sexual intercourse is repeated. The vaginal applicator is re-usable. However, it should be washed in warm water after eac use.

Important note

Caya®Gel offers no protection against sexually transmitted diseases. It is not a safe contracewptive mehtod when used alone without a mechanical barrier device. Caya®Gel is soluble in water and compatible with natural latex rubber or polyurethane condoms.
